Joachim Alcine knocks out hunger with a “club”

The “King of the Ring” serves breakfast to young Quebecers

Montreal, November 2nd, 2007 – WBA champion Joachim “Ti-Joa” Alcine today traded the cheers of adoring boxing fans for the smiling faces of the members of St. Remi School’s Breakfast Club. A total of 185 elementary-school-age youngsters were served a nutritious breakfast by the boxer as part of the Quebec Breakfast Club program.

“As the father of three, I am very aware of the importance of feeding a child a nutritious meal at the beginning of the day to aid them in concentrating on, and achieving in, their studies,” said a beaming Alcine. “That is why Groupe Yvon Michel and I are delighted to partner with a great organization like the Quebec Breakfast Club to deliver today’s meal, and to pledge one dollar of every ticket sold to my December 7th title defense to continue this meaningful mission.”

Since its inception at the Lionel-Groulx elementary school located in an underprivileged Longueuil neighbourhood in 1994, the Quebec Breakfast Club has consistently adhered to its primary objective of providing every child with two essential elements for learning: a nutritious breakfast and a nourishing environment. During the 2006-2007 school year, a small army consisting of 2,500 volunteers welcomed 15,000 children with a smile, and served an incredible 2.1 million breakfasts in 212 schools throughout Quebec.

“We are so proud to play a part in the extraordinary work of Daniel Germain and the entire Breakfast Club family on behalf of Quebec children,” said Yvon Michel, president of Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM). “Joachim Alcine has shown once again through his outstanding leadership that he is not only an exemplary world-class athlete, but a genuinely caring champion of the community as well.”

With the support of an increasing number of strategic partners like Joachim Alcine and Groupe Yvon Michel, the Quebec Breakfast Club can pursue its mission and ensure that the children who need them most can count on them.
