We are very aware that the bar has been set high for Joachim Alcine on December 7th,” said Yvon Michel.

An elated GYM today announced that more than 7,000 tickets to the December 7th event at the Bell Centre have been sold since they were made available two weeks ago.

Due to the very rapid sale of the initial ticket offering, an additional block of $52 seats has been added to the original configuration of the venue in order to accommodate popular demand. The “Return of the King” showdown will be an optional title defense for Alcine against the current WBA Fedelatin light middleweight champion, Panamanian Alfonso Mosquera (19-0-5, 7 KOs), and will mark Alcine’s return to the Quebec ring following a year-and-a-half hiatus in the wake of his victory by unanimous decision over Alberto Mamani in the summer of 2006.

It will likewise be the first time since the Lucas vs. Sheika encounter in September 2002 that a world champion defends his title in Montreal. Of note additionally, is the fact that Joachim Alcine is the first Quebecer to garner a championship belt abroad, then to defend it back home.

Alcine became world champion by defeating, on points, by unanimous decision, defending champion Travis Simms (25-0-0, 19 KOs) on his home turf in Connecticut. From a deficit position of 4 to 1 odds, Alcine prevailed, delivering to Simms, a two-time world champion, his first professional loss.
