Olivier Lontchi fights for world-class ranking
as boxing gala headliner

Montreal, November 7th, 2007 – The wait is over for Canadian Super Bantamweight Champion, Olivier Lontchi. On Saturday, November 10th as part of the Budweiser Boxing Series presented by the Montreal Casino, Lontchi (13-0-1, 6 KOs) will confront the pride of Veracruz, Mexico and former world champion Cruz “Cucho” Carbajal (28-14-2, 24 KOs) in a much-anticipated 12-round NABA and NABO championship bout in the 122 lb division..

Stymied by an injury to his right hand sustained while sparring with Canadian light welterweight champion (140 lbs), Antonin Décarie which prevented him from traveling to Buffalo, New York to confront American Johnny Edwards (12-1-0), holder of the NABA (affiliated with the WBA) title in the 126-pound division this past August, Lontchi now has his opportunity to prevail. At stake: the dual NABA and NABO prizes, and equally importantly, the top tenth rung of the WBA and WBO world ranking. On his path to glory, the hard-hitting Lontchi will have to stop the march of Carbajal who arrives in Montreal with significant success recently. He has only lost once in his last five bouts , and that against undefeated Mike Oliver (20-0-0, 7KO), in an IBF title eliminator. Carbajal is also currently ranked # 12 by the IBF. The division champion is Steve Molitor (25-10-0, 10 KOs) from Ontario

The bout, which will be broadcast live this Saturday as part of Radio Canada’s Passion Sports, beginning at 3:00 p.m. EST., will headline an unrelenting line-up that will begin with Canadian light welterweight champion Antonin Décarie (15-0-0, 5 KOs) taking on tough Frankie “Panchito” Zepeda (16-5-0, 9 KOs). Zepeda, a southpaw, will bring the same brand of no-holds-barred assault that he has displayed in all of his fights. This is a good test for the young Décarie who is seeking international recognition this year.

Montreal’s Nicholson “The Machine” Poulard (7-2-0, 3 KOs) will be busy living up to his nickname by applying his signature, right-handed gears to 34-year-old Las Vegas son, Carl Cockerham (12-15-3, 4 KOs) in a six-round engagement. With Cockerham’s reputation for being tough to stop, it should be an interesting fight.

Cocherham is making his forth trip to Canada. He has only lost by decision against powerful hitters like Canadian contender Adonis Stevenson (9-0-0, 7KO), former Canadian champion Walid Smichet (17-3-3, 13KO) and Quebec Champion David Whittom (9-4-1, 5KO)

Also applying all-out pugilistic prowess to their Saturday afternoon match-ups will be light welterweight Manolis Plaitis (8-0-0, 4 KOs) versus Mexico City’s Alberto Hernandez Perez (5-7-1, 3 KOs); and talented newcomer Benyamine “Raada” Besmi (2-0-0, 0 KO) who will round out the day’s card by challenging Mexican opponent Oswaldo Gonzalez (1-7-0, 1 KO).
