OSCAR RIVAS

28-1-0, 19 KOs

Colombian-born heavyweight Oscar "Kaboom" Rivas is a young prospect fighting in the king’s division of boxing.

He first caught the attention of Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) at the Beijing Olympics, where he upset Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev, who eventually became an opponent of world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

After an escapade that only a script from a James Bond movie could match, Rivas and his compatriot, Eleider Alvarez, secretly took the road to Montreal by plane to sign a professional contract with GYM.

Just as his accomplice, the friendly giant learned the language of Molière, while deepening his learning of the noble art of boxing with trainer Marc Ramsay.

In the pro ranks, "Kaboom" defeated current Canadian cruiserweight champion Sylvera Louis, Barbados Olympian Shawn Cox, and tough Mexican Daniel Cota.

In his first career main event, at the Vintage Theatre of the Casino de Montreal, Rivas proved that he had the makings of a star, knocking out brawler Eric Barrak.

After he easily disposed of the Turkish giant Oezcan Cetinkaya in less than a single round, fighting on the undercard of the world title fight between Adonis Stevenson and Sakio Bika in Quebec, Rivas pulverized American Jason Pettaway in the opening round on a Premier Boxing Champions series show in Shelton, Washington.

On November 28 at the Videotron Centre, Rivas wasted no time facing American tough guy Joey Abell, knocking him out impressively live on the Showtime network.

The heavyweight won his first minor title two years later at the Casino de Montreal against the massive Carl Davis Drummond (31-4-0). He then went on to four wins that would bring him to Verona, New York, for a crucial fight with three belts at stake against rising American star Bryant Jennings (24-2-0) whom he has defeated in the twelfth and final round.

Six months later in London, he suffered his very controversial first defeat against the formidable English boxer Dillian Whyte (25-1), to whom he showed the floor in the 9th round.

After an absence of 20 months, he found the path to success with a decisive victory over Montrealer Sylvera Louis.

Ranked number one in the new super heavy-light division, Oscar Rivas is set to fight for his first world title in the short term. "Kaboom" has never been so close to fame.
